2x3x3 Domino Cuboid

Last Update:

The 2x3x3 cuboid is a replica of the Rubik's Domino puzzle (comparison pictures below). The 2x3x3 cuboid can be made using a keychain Rubik's Cube and either one or two normal sized 57mm cubes. Overall size is 38mm x 57mm x 57mm.

The general principle for making a 2x3x3 Rubik's Domino replica is explained in the Tony Fisher's Cuboid 3x3x3 Transformations section of twistypuzzles.com. The method described there differs from the versions that were actually manufactured. The two most common versions are the groove version and the split spindle version. Recently pictures were posted showing apparently a Russian made Domino using a solid spindle mechanism but that is another story for another day. The groove version is impractical to duplicate while the spindle version is possible but still difficult. A tutorial for creating a split spindle version of the 2x3x3 Rubik's Domino can be found at Ton Dennenbroek's useful web page.

Due to the relative durability and smoothness of the Tony Fisher mechanism vs. the grooved Domino and ease of construction vs. the spindle Domino, the Fisher method was ultimately chosen as the basis of construction.

Given that the 2x3x3 Rubik's Domino was manufactured, there is little reason to make a replica unless it can be made relatively more affordable. The only other advantage for a replica would be for customization purposes. While the official Rubik's Domino was produced as a black side/white side dotted puzzle, a custom 2x3x3 cuboid can be made entirely black or white, or 50/50.

Price for a 2x3x3 Rubik's Domino replica has not been set. Since the puzzle already exists in a manufactured form the puzzle will be made by special custom request only. Price for a custom made Domino replica is about $100. May vary depending on request. Please contact for details.
