Master Pyraminx Puzzle

Last Update:

Ever since Katsuhiko Okamoto took orders for the Master Pyraminx in 2006, I had always wanted one yet thought that this puzzle was out of my reach. In late 2008/early 2009 I finally achieved success...

... and then not long after that I got out of puzzle making.

So I'm finally catching up somewhat, and now present the remaining pictures of the puzzle's internal mechanism on my website. I previously stated on this Twisty Puzzle forum thread that I would release the pictures of the puzzle during its build, but I don't believe I ever did, so this is my attempt to finally make up for that oversight. Too little too late, I suppose. Anyway, enjoy.

The first early pictures of the Master Pyraminx after completion. The first pics are still just as good as a static representation, so that is what you see here.

The first of the all important edge pieces. Feet were formed by curving pieces of plastic around the existing foot of a standard Pyraminx This method turned out to be surprisingly good.

You can see here the circle that's been roughly measured out on the face of the Skewb Diamond. On another face, the edge piece has already been fitted.

Skewb Diamon point pieces have been cut and sheets of plastic backed for the edge feet to move against.

A view of the piece that's fixed to rotate around an axis, and how it's been built up from a regular Pyraminx piece using sheets of polystyrene plastic.

Some work out in the garage. Quick test fitting of the white edge pieces prior to casting.

Another picture of the white pieces now fitted with one of the tips.

As you can see the edge piece still holds tight even when it overhangs completely. This is due to the large foot and tongue giving it a lot of stability.

Would I ever build another? Nope. This one is the only one of its kind. Odds are, it's the only one of its kind in existence. Maybe. Who knows. Everyone knows that you can make one from a Skewb Diamond. So there's bound to be more now, right? Right???
