Before and After

After all that trouble for the custom air intake, I broke down and got a Hotshot anyway. Sheesh. The Hotshot sounds really aggressive, much more than just a simple cone air filter. You can hear the air being sucked in and you can also hear the VAF opening and closing when you accelerate and shift. Very cool. Based on the dyno results, this is also one of the most effective mods on a "bang for the buck" basis. Congratulations, Hotshot.

BEFORE:
What I started with was the final form of my home brew intake, as shown.

AFTER:
The Hotshot Cold Air is just a smooth tube that ends with a K&N cone filter.

The filter itself is near the bottom of the car by the splash guard, allowing the car to breathe in cooler air than what is available in the engine compartment. I may resort to wrapping the hotshot tube in something heat resistant or have it coated, because the tube is still quite hot to the touch. We'll see.
